Welcome to the Dothan Civitan Club Website

Who are Civitans?

Civitans are everyday citizens, just like you and me, who come together in communities throughout the world to make life better for their neighbors. Family, friends, neighbors and co-workers meet at Civitan club meetings to socialize, learn and serve in their communities.

Starting with just a single club and a vision for helping others, Civitan has grown to over 40,000 members in 24 countries. Founded on the most basic moral and spiritual values, Civitans’ commitment to identify and address needs in their communities has set them apart from other social and service organizations.

The Mission of the Dothan Civitan Club is to build good citizenship by providing a volunteer organization whose members are dedicated to serving the individual and the community needs with an emphasis on helping people with physical and developmental disabilities. True to our motto: “Builders of Good Citizenship” we are actively working both physically and monetarily to be good citizens in our community.

What do we do?

Part of the Civitan Creed states, "MY HANDS do the work of the world and reach out in service to others."

We take that seriously and do more than just meet and socialize. We contribute our time to raising money and physically help with projects around the community.

One of the ways we do that is the giving of our resources (time and money) to other organizations that align with our mission, such as:

  • Vaughn Blumberg Center
  • LifeSavers Therapeutic Ranch
  • DTS Special Tennis Tournament
  • Dothan Leisure Services Therapeutic Program
  • And others

We plan and participate in several projects throughout the year. Some of them are:

  • Family Fun Days - Dothan Civitan Club partners with Dothan Leisure Services Therapeutic Program to host this event at Miracle Field for our area special needs individuals and their families to come and enjoy playing, face painting, activities, food, and just have fun together.
  • Local Schools - We help out local special needs classes in the Dothan area by donating supplies, books, and our time.
  • Wheel Chair Ramps - We build wheel chair ramps for those in need in our area by donating man power and materials.
  • Cans for Greens - We recently donated a field full of fresh greens in exchange for canned food that was then donated to the Wiregrass Area Food Bank.
  • And many more

Civitans Around the World

There are Civitans all over the world and we contribute to the national organization Civitan International. As a whole we promote many projects to better our world.

The largest would be the UAB Civitan International Research Center.

This center is the culmination of over 50 years of Civitans helping those challenged by developmental disabilities. This institution is the first of its kind in the US to be solely dedicated to the research of developmental disabilities. For more information on the CIRC go to http://www.civitan.org.
